Chelsea secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brighton on Wednesday evening, with goals from Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku. However, the win was marred by an injury to Mykhailo Mudryk, who was taken off just before half-time due to a concussion.

Mudryk’s night ended abruptly following a clash with Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey. Although he initially received medical attention on the field, he could not continue playing. Chelsea utilized the concussion substitute rule to replace him with Nkunku. This rule allows teams to make an additional substitution if a player suffers a suspected concussion, following consultation with the match referee and the club’s medical staff. As a result, Mudryk must now adhere to a mandatory seven-day rest period, ruling him out of Chelsea’s final Premier League game against Bournemouth.

Chelsea’s Update on Mudryk

During the post-match press conference, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino updated the audience on Mudryk’s condition. Pochettino confirmed that the Ukrainian winger was not in good shape and would be unavailable for the next match.

“No, he is not OK, we are checking. He was a little bit dizzy but we used the concussion substitution and the rule is seven days, so he is not going to be available for the next game, but I hope it is nothing wrong,” Pochettino said.

The injury to Mudryk was not Chelsea’s only setback during the match. Captain Reece James was sent off with just two minutes left in regulation time, further complicating the team’s situation.

Despite these challenges, Chelsea has shown significant improvement recently. The victory against Brighton marked their fourth consecutive win in the league, a remarkable turnaround after a poor start to the season. This string of victories has put Chelsea in a strong position as they approach their season’s final match.

Chelsea needs just one point from their upcoming game against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge to secure European football for the next season. The team and their fans are hopeful that they can achieve this goal despite Mudryk’s absence.

The injury to Mykhailo Mudryk overshadowed Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Brighton. Following a clash with Tariq Lamptey, Mudryk was substituted due to a concussion and will miss the season’s final game. Manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Mudryk is not in good shape and will be out for seven days. Chelsea now needs just one point against Bournemouth to secure European football next season, and fans will be eager to see if they can finish the season on a high note despite the recent setbacks.
