Tottenham plot move for 23-year-old midfielder wanted by Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring the services of Aston Villa target Angel Gomes.

The North London club are expected to have a busy transfer window which could see them make numerous changes to their squad. Ange Postecoglou is looking for more firepower and according to a report from GiveMeSport, Spurs are considering making a move for Angel Gomes to reinforce their squad and are willing to battle Aston Villa for his signature.

Gomes was a part of the Manchester United youth setup. He parted ways with the club as a free agent back in 2020. Things might not have worked out for him at the Manchester-based club but he has managed to make a name for himself while playing for LOSC Lille.

The versatile midfielder has featured in 118 matches for the French club and has even contributed towards 26 goals (8 goals, 18 assists). While he prefers playing as a number ten, Gomes is capable enough to feature as a central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder. His consistent performances haven’t gone unnoticed and clubs are ready to battle it out for his signature.

Gomes is all set to enter the final 12 months of his £12,000-per-week deal which means Lille will find it difficult to keep hold of their star. The French outfit could consider sanctioning his departure if they don’t succeed in extending his stay at the club.

Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. They are looking for players who can help bolster their squad and the 23-year-old seems to be a perfect fit.

Gomes might not take long to settle in having come up the ranks at Manchester United and he is open to the idea of returning to the English top flight. If he is available for a reasonable fee, Spurs could make a move for him.

But, they will face competition from Aston Villa who have just secured Champions League football for next season and are looking to further bolster their squad. They see Gomes as an attractive target to bolster their ranks and also help them meet the Premier League’s homegrown quota guidelines.
